The Tango – The Soccer Ball of Choice for Europe’s Elite Players in 2012
Even if you have never set foot on the continent most people know how seriously the Europeans take their soccer (except they usually call it football) So the fact that the UEFA 2012 Euros are coming up obviously causes a great deal of excitement. It is also a big opportunity for sporting equipment manufacturers, especially for adidas who will be producing the special soccer ball that is to be used throughout the tournament.
Every big soccer tournament has its very own soccer ball and adidas make a great many of the soccer balls used at the most prominent competitions, including the FIFA World Cup. There is also always a story behind each soccer ball these days and the ball chosen for the Euro 2012 competition is no exception.
The adidas Euro 2012 Tango soccer ball is based on another adidas tournament ball creation of the same name that was used back in the 1980s for the Euros. Bright and colorful its main logo incorporates the flags of the two European nations that will be hosting the tournament Poland and the Ukraine.
Although the look is inspired by a soccer ball from the Eighties the professional quality soccer balls of the 21st century are very different from the ones produced thirty years ago. The days of soccer balls made from leather and pigskin bladders are long gone. The soccer balls that are used in European soccer leagues these days are made from hi tech materials designed to everything from resist water to actually change the way the ball moves when it is kicked.
The other thing that has changed is how much it costs these days. A replica version of the Euro 2012 was already selling out before 2012 even arrived, even though they cost around 120 euros, or $150 each!
